Trucking companies are experiencing a large driver shortage and are constantly trying to recruit more drivers into their ranks. One of the most common things you will see as a student is a pre-hire letter. A pre-hire letter is a written acknowledgement from a company to offer you employment upon completing your CDL Training. Pre-hire letters are a great way of easing the stress of trying to job-hunt after your training where you can just strictly focus on doing your best during training.

Before you begin to ask for pre-hire letters, make sure you do your proper research on the company that you would like to receive one from and ask if their structure works for you. Make sure to ask questions such as your beginning CPM (cents per mile), what your home time would look like, pet policies, benefits, etc. Try to gather as much information as you possibly can before committing to a company, either by visiting their website, or talking with a recruiter, to make sure you are the right fit.

When speaking with recruiters, make sure to let them know you have not finished your training yet, and give them a date around when you will be available so they can have a clear understanding of when to expect you.

Apply to as many companies as you can, that way your options open up and you don’t have to limit yourself to just one company. Some companies offer different regions, routes, and benefits, so make sure to do your research and open yourself up to what you want.
